Is it me or does it feel like it was JUST June…..and life has somehow just fast-forwarded through to Thanksgiving?

While tomorrow will be dedicated to prep and gluttony, I wanted to focus on presentation today. Most Thanksgivings start for me with mental images of a grand tables such as the below, but in reality it ends up being a paper plate and plastic utensil, eating marathon. This will most likely ring true for me again this year, because when Friendsgiving goes down, sometimes presentation falls to the way-side. However, here is to the hope that I can get it together next year and have something more adult-like.

Everyone needs more gold and black inspiration for their home. Nate Berkus has an amazing collection at Target full of fun decor, bedding, and bath needs.

Goodness gracious my husband is lucky we don’t have a house my shopping cart would be FULL! Now how to convince him we need a decorative gem…. I believe that phrase is “Do first. Ask for forgiveness later.” Happy Friday!

How about some beautiful interiors to brighten up your Monday morning?

In my next house I am set on making our bedroom an oasis of neutrals. Doesn’t it look so calming and peaceful? While I am usually drawn to insanely bright colors, I think this is a compromise that both me and the Mr. would enjoy. I especially love the chandelier over the bed for a touch of glam.

Restoration Hardware is now offering contemporary art work. The artists are amazing, and today I am sharing a few that are now on my wish list. While it is out of my price range, it is still fun to ooh and ahhh and imagine what these pieces would look like in my future house. The cow hide oil paintings below are my favorite. I showed them to my husband and he said, “Wouldn’t it be cheaper and easier to get a framed cow hide rug?” Well yes, it probably would be. But these are so cool because they are paintings….Anyways, enjoy!

I cannot even believe that the Holidays are practically here. Isn’t so crazy how they come so fast and then like that, they’re gone? I’m stating to get excited and was inspired by some images, and wanted to share!

I am not a holiday decor person. I like using seasonal colors as a pallet for making things festive, but I am not a hang witches at Halloween or cornucopias at Thanksgiving, and I actually dread going in Christmas themed stores. The holiday settings below are beautifully seasonal and right up my alley. If only I had a dining room table… How do you decorate for the holidays?

If you are looking for some new pieces to spruce up your dinner table or home try West Elm, Pier One, Pottery Barn, World Market, or etsy.

We all need a brush up on our table setting etiquette. The holidays are a great excuse to bust out your fine china. Get creative and mix and match with new and vintage pieces.

I will try this someday.

I’m a bit obsessed with navy these days, can’t you tell?  It goes with EVERYTHING.  Here is some navy inspiration for your interiors.  Doesn’t it just make you want to paint your whole house navy?

Side note I was able to get through online to the Endless Summer Sale at Lilly Pulitzer and went a little overboard (shhhh don’t tell my husband).  There is still some great stuff left and the prices are unbeatable.  Unfortunately all of the dresses I snagged up are no longer available, but I’ll be sure to IG them once they are in. Follow me @meljparrish or @bhahb.

While chevron stripes have been a hot fashion topic in recent history; today I am going to talk about these bad boys in your home, and no I don’t mean painted on your walls. For a long time now I have been fascinated with older homes that have chevroned hardwood floors, and recently this has expanded to tiling (floors, walls, showers, etc.). To me there is something so elegant and stunning about the detail, the fact that it  can add an element of drama or a bit of a historic touch to any home just astounds me. Here are some great examples of how I would incorporate them into my own home (once I actually own one).

Hey friends, I am enjoying a week in the Outer Banks and I thought it would be fitting to do a beach related post. How fun is it to day dream about your future beach house?

I absolutely love these fans. They are so tropical and provide a delicious breeze.

Great big windows and a sick view. That is all.

I fell in love with Greek Key detailing a few years back. I was perusing an interior design blog and happened upon a stunning white dresser with dainty gold Greek Key detailing, I was a goner. Ever since that fateful day I find myself gravitating towards the design element and coveting it’s existence in my home. While most of my yearnings have come in the form of furniture, today I wanted to share a few smaller items that could jump start incorporating the detail into your own space.

Growing up in the south, summer succotash is always a food staple. However, somewhere between my childhood and my late 20’s I had forgotten all about; well, that is until of late. Recently I was looking for alternative healthy side dish for dinners and I stumble upon this recipe from Food and Wine.

Ingredients:

  1. 2 cups fresh green peas (I opted for edamame)
  2. 1 tsp olive oil
  3. 1 thick slice of bacon, finely diced
  4. 1 small onion, finely chopped
  5. 1/2 pound okra, sliced 1/2 inch thick
  6. 3 medium tomatoes—peeled, seeded and coarsely chopped
  7. 3 ears of corn, kernels cut off
  8. Salt and freshly ground pepper
  9. 1/4 cup slivered basil leaves

Directions:

First things first, grill some corn….if you don’t have a grill you can always do something I like to call urban grilling (i.e. using your gas stove top as a grill). So this recipe originally calls for the cooking of the Lima beans, since I passed on those and B-lined it to edamame, I am just going to skip that step.

summer succotash

In a deep skillet, heat the oil. Add the bacon and cook over moderately high heat, until browned. Add the onion and cook until just softened. Add the okra and cook for 8 minutes.

summer succotash

Add the edamame and corn and cook. After the edamame gets a nice green color add the tomatoes and cook until they break down.

summer succotash

Simmer for 2 minutes with a lid. Stir in basil leaves and serve.

summer succotash

For a slightly healthier/vegetarian option you can nix the bacon and just use olive oil.

Enjoy!
